The von Velen Museum shows the atmosphere of historical pioneer times of the first settlers of Papenburg.

You are welcome to take a tour of the museum grounds.

Opening times (High Season)

15th April until 15th October, daily from 10:00 am until 5:00pm

daily tours at 2:00 pm

Opening times (Low Season)

from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm

Weekends in April:

from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm

Weekdays in October:

from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm, as of 15th of October, on demand

The museum remains closed during rainy weather.

Gut Altenkamp / Art and Culture Center

In the Papenburg district of Aschendorf, in the midst of a very spacious baroque garden with impressive yew hedges, you will find Gut Altenkamp, a stately baroque building, nowadays a location for art exhibitions e.g. of the

“Preussischer Kulturbesitz Berlin” (Prussian Cultural Society), concerts and evening lectures.

Papenburger Zeitspeicher Museum

Papenbuger Zeitspeicher

In the Papenburg Zeitspeicher, guests can experience the founding of the city of Papenburg as well as the history of navigation and shipbuilding in an interactive manner. Guests will be also told the moving

story of the ship “Graf Götzen” which achieved worldwide fame in the Hollywood production “African Queen”

with Humphrey Bogart. A glance behind the scenes of the modern Automotive Testing Area ATP will highlight

your visit to the Zeitspeicher. Here you will be able to discover what “Erlkoenige” are and even watch two of these extremely rare examples very closely.

Do you love flowers, especially orchids? Then you should visit the Orchidfarm with it´s wonderful orchids. An exhibition area, covering approx. 8000 m², displays in all stages of growth and in all colours and blossom forms.

Covering area around 8000 m² thrives the orchids in all their growth phases and colors. At the end of your visit you can buy your favorite orchids in the shop and take them home with you.
